A Predictive Framework for Web Access over Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a framework that uses both prefetching and location prediction together to effectively lower the cost and total access time for mobile web users. A new prefetching algorithm is presented that dynamically predicts the likelihood of the mobile moving into a different network. We examine a heterogeneous system composed of two networks: a cheaper and faster WLAN network, and a slower, more expensive cellular data network. Using current industry network rates, our model demonstrates that mobility can significantly raise or lower the prefetching threshold. An accurate mobility prediction scheme can therefore achieve a lower total cost for end users.

متن کاملThe Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks
With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

Transmission opportunity limit and contention window are two influenced parameters in accessing the media in the networks based IEEE 802.11e standard. In these networks, every wireless station by setting of its contention window value, determines the chance of access to wireless media. Furthermore, a transmission opportunity limit provides a period of transmission without contact for a station....
